Here at Wollaston Primary school, we always encourage, support and include every child to participate in Physical Education. We create lessons that are fun and develop every child’s skill. Across the school we have lessons that involve sportsmanship, leadership and team cooperation. Not only do we do this in a variety of game based activities, we also cover gymnastics and dance, across both Key Stages.

For a couple of years now, the children in this school have excelled in external sports competitions. Pacesetter coaches have provided us with ten different competitions, which have varied in sport, from dodgeball to athletics. These competitions have allowed children, across all the ages, to participate and compete against other schools. The children from Wollaston Primary have showed great sportsmanship and drive to work as a team. This is a credit to all of the children’s family and teachers at the school.

We have been provided with the same opportunity this year, and so we will compete in 10 different competitions, across the year. There will be a lot of encouragement for children to get involved with these competitions, particularly those who didn’t last year. This will give them the chance to try something new and enjoy being a part of a competitive sporting event.

The competitions normally take place at Benham Sports Centre, in Moulton. Unfortunately, the school do not have transport, so this will mean that parents or other family members, will be required to get transport the children there and bring them back to school. I will just take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all the parents that have arranged transport for their children to participate in these events in the past.

I have listed below, the competitions that have been organised for this year -

There will also be the opportunity for the children to take part in a strictly come dancing style competition, both for year 3 & 4 and 5 & 6. Further details will be sent out closer to the time.

As this is my first year as PE lead for the school, I am really looking forward to this year. I am hoping to have success in the tournaments above, but I am mostly looking forward to helping promote a healthy and active lifestyle, both with the children and the wider community. I sincerely believe that having a healthy body goes hand in hand with having a healthy mind, and if I can get the children in this school more active, then, hopefully this will have a positive impact on their school performance.

Our last Ofted showed that teaching is consistently good in our school. Typically, progress is good for each year group and a higher proportion than nationally achieve as expected by the end of both key stages.
